URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) -- Kent "Demond" Dade has resigned from his position as Urbana Fire Chief.

The City of Urbana announced Dade's resignation in a news release Wednesday afternoon. During this leadership transition, Deputy Chiefs Steven Doggett and Tal Prendergast will provide "steady operational leadership" to the Urbana Fire Department.

"Chief Dade has dedicated himself to the safety and well-being of Urbana residents, and I thank him for his service," Urbana Mayor DeShawn Williams said. "We wish him all the best in his future endeavors."

Williams also emphasized that the fire department remains fully operational, and continues to serve the community with professionalism, excellence and dedication.
