LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Laredo Police Department is asking the community to dial 911 only in emergencies.
This follows the arrest of 47-year-old Johnny Gonzalez for allegedly making several threatening calls to 911, during which he cursed at the operator.
While Gonzalez was later arrested for allegedly abusing the service line, the Laredo Police 911 Emergency System receives, on average, over 3,000 calls per week, which can leave department staff extremely busy helping those in need.
According to Laura Esquinca with the LPD Communication Department, “[I would like] for the city to understand that we are a lifeline. We deal with emergency situations that are either life-or-death, so I need that line open. Whoever needs my assistance —whether it’s a baby or just a patrol officer —becaus
