LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – It's that time of the year when drivers will need to share the roads with large pieces of farm equipment, and 6 News spoke with law enforcement and a Charlotte farmer about how you can stay safe around this machinery.
There were more than 170 farm equipment involved crashes on the roads last year, according to Michigan State Police, and Charlotte farmer Brett Roberts says he has had a few incidents of his own.
“I've seen multiple people be hit by vehicles in tractors. Some have resulted in death,” said Roberts. “I've personally been hit by a vehicle in a tractor.”
Roberts is the president of the Eaton County Farm Bureau and his family has been farming for generations.
“The biggest thing is that people need to slow down,” said Roberts.
