Dauphin County is staring down a massive budget crisis that, if left unsolved, could lead to job cuts, services eliminated or another major tax increase.

That’s according to Chief Clerk Eric Hagarty, who gave a bleak presentation on the county’s financial plight during a public meeting Wednesday. The takeaway? If the county doesn’t course correct, it will be “insolvent”— or unable to pay its debts — by mid-2026.
