BELOIT, Wis. (WMTV) - A Beloit man was sentenced on Wednesday to 25 years in the Wisconsin State Prison System for a homicide in May of 2024, according to the Rock County District Attorney’s Office.

For his sentence, he will spend 15 years behind bars followed by 10 years of extended supervision.

In August, Kevin Payne, 39, was found guilty of second-degree reckless homicide for a deadly shooting in May 2024.

The Beloit Police Department responded early the morning of May 11 to the 1200 block of Dewey Avenue. The District Attorney’s Office said a fight broke out and escalated as a group of people were leaving a bar.

When Beloit PD arrived, officers found a man with a gunshot wound , and he was taken to a local hospital.
