CANTON, Ohio — The Stark County Sheriff's Office says one woman was taken to the hospital and a suspect is dead after what's being described as an attempted murder-suicide Wednesday afternoon in Plain Township.

According to a release from authorities, the female victim managed to escape from an apartment complex on Orchard Dale Drive Northwest despite having been shot multiple times. She is currently at Aultman Hospital in Canton, where her exact condition is unknown.

Deputies say they found the suspect dead inside an apartment from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Additionally, a child inside the home managed to escape to a neighboring residence and has since been placed in the care of family members.
