Several people were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, at a car wash in Hamden on Wednesday, according to Mayor Lauren Garrett.

During a press conference, Garrett said eight people were detained while at a car wash on Dixwell Avenue.

The mayor said she learned about the raid after it happened, and said ICE called police dispatch to tell them they were in town.

Garrett said police believe all eight people who were detained are adults. She said some may have children, but she couldn't independently confirm that information.

The town of Hamden is working on getting information about the names of the people detained, according to Garrett.
