A senior adviser to Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is at the center of an internal city investigation, with an official report recommending his firing.

Chicago Inspector General Deborah Witzburg recommended the firing of Jason Lee, who has been described as Johnson's righthand man. The mayor, however, has declined the recommendation and chose not to discipline him at all. Lee has an annual salary of $195,000.

NBC 5 Chicago has learned the inspector general's investigation began two years ago after Ald. Bill Conway, who represents Chicago's 34th Ward, accused Lee of trading favorable votes in exchange for help Conway asked for on a public safety request in his ward.
