MANITOWOC, Wis. (WBAY) - The USS Cobia returned home to the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc on Wednesday.

It has spent the last 6 weeks undergoing restoration work in Sturgeon Bay, and she received a warm welcome home as she came into Manitowoc.

You could feel the excitement along the riverfront from those gathered as a piece of history slowly made its way back home.

“I love it. Cobia means a lot to this town; they built these subs here in WW2. Cobia is here representing those subs, and you can tell that it’s still in these people’s blood,” says veteran Mark Becker.

After traveling 55 nautical miles across Lake Michigan, the USS Cobia is docked back at home in Manitowoc.
