U.S. Vice-President JD Vance has dismissed criticism of a Young Republican group chat that included racist slurs, jokes about rape and flippant commentary on gas chambers, despite bipartisan calls for those involved to be removed from their positions.

Politico reported on Tuesday that members of the The Young Republican National Federation, the GOP's political organization for Republicans between 18 and 40, referred to Black people as monkeys and "the watermelon people," and talked about raping their enemies and putting political opponents in gas chambers.
