Longtime Kitsilano watering hole Darby’s Pub will close forever at the end of this month to make way for a six-storey rental building.

On Wednesday, developer Michael Hungerford said the last day of service for the pub would be Saturday, Nov. 1.

“For over 45 years, Darby’s Pub and Liquor Store has been a cornerstone of the Kitsilano neighbourhood, a place where people came together to share food, stories and connect,” said Hungerford, a partner at Hungerford Properties.

Darby’s pub was built in 1979 and owned and operated by developer Terry Lightheart, a descendant of the Lightheart family that built many apartment buildings across Vancouver between 1901 and 1931.
