AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Police Oversight (APO), formerly known as the Office of Police Oversight, released its 2024 annual report this week. The independent, impartial group looks at APD's policies and complaints received from the community and within the department.
Of the 159 complaints the APO recommended the department to investigate, APD looked at all of them.
Since voters approved the Austin Police Oversight Act in 2023, Austin Police Oversight has had access to police records and the ability to gather evidence and interview witnesses. Its goal has been to increase transparency and accountability between the community and the department.
