NEW JERSEY (PIX11) – Security officers working at some of Newark's largest buildings, including Prudential Tower, University Hospital, and Audible’s headquarters, are voting on whether to strike after their union contract expired in September.
The labor union Local 32BJ the Service Employees International Union made the announcement on Wednesday.
Over 2,000 union members argue that, despite guarding billion-dollar corporations and public institutions, the median wage for a unionized New Jersey officer is still only $18.62 an hour.
Members say it’s barely enough to survive.
