Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold made headlines for all the wrong reasons after its battery exploded during a YouTube durability test. Zack Nelson, known online as JerryRigEverything, filmed the phone’s bend test, and as he stressed the device past its limits, the battery expanded, overheated, emitted smoke, and left a charred mess — even triggering a nearby fire alarm.
“To be honest, in the decade that I’ve been durability-testing phones, I have never had a smartphone explode before,” Nelson said. “The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the first phone to go up in smoke.”
Nelson did note that the test was extreme. He initially bent the phone backwards while fully unfolded and only caused the battery to react after essentially folding the screen behind itself — a scenario most users would never encounter.
