Unfortunately, the efforts of Northwest Allen administrators and school board to meet the continually growing needs of our students are hampered by state school funding formulas that disproportionately affect our district compared to our peers in Allen County and across the state.
More than 86% of our tax base is residential, which places the majority of the responsibility squarely on homeowners.
Because the operations fund — which covers basic expenses such as transportation, utilities and maintenance — is limited to a 4% growth cap and primarily funded by property tax revenue, our ability to generate additional income remains restricted even as more homes are added to the tax base.
