ADA COUNTY, Idaho — The Ada County Board of Commissioners is expected to vote on a new zoning ordinance that could change how residents build.

The current zoning ordinance was last updated in 1999, with minor changes since then. The new zoning ordinance has been in the works since 2020. The new zoning ordinance could impact where solar farms and multi-family housing can be built.

One of the biggest talking points is how solar farms could impact farmland.

The ordinance aims to reduce impacts on sensitive plants and wildlife and to keep fire safety at the forefront when new solar farms are built. This means solar farms cannot be built on prime farmland or farmland of state and local importance.
