OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A homeless man who wanders downtown Omaha is behind bars tonight after allegedly attacking an off-duty Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy working security.

A First Alert 6 investigation finds the same defendant has erupted with violent outbursts before.

Rummaging through a garbage can outside an Old Market convenience store, 41-year-old Chen Vang had been told twice by Sheriff’s Sergeant Tom Flynn to move along, but instead, Vang allegedly made a move against the deputy.

“He became violent and took a swing at me, struck me in the face. Stepped back and re-engaged and charged me so I had to take him to the ground. Struggling with him he continued to try and throw punches,” Flynn said.
