Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has denied backflipping on the presence of transgender women in female prisons, despite Corrections Victoria being told to “update their policy” on prisoner placement.
Ms Allan indicated on Wednesday that she had no plans to follow Northern Territory Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro’s lead in banning transgender women from serving in state prisons.
This came after the Premier had refused to intervene earlier this month when it was revealed a biological male identifying as a woman had been housed in Victorian women’s prison, despite being convicted of sexually abusing a five-year-old girl.
But on Wednesday afternoon, Victorian Corrections Minister Enver Erdogan revealed in Parliament he had asked Corrections Victoria to update their polices on prisoner place
