Connor McMichael has been clear all along: Center is his natural position, he feels most comfortable there, and he has a strong desire to be a center for the Washington Capitals in the long term.
But in the short term, when the Capitals are healthy, McMichael fits best on the wing. Hendrix Lapierre won the third-line center job coming out of training camp, so McMichael returned to his spot on the wing, with center Pierre-Luc Dubois and Tom Wilson, where he played most of last season and scored a career-best 26 goals.
