LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The race is on to fill a vacant Kentucky Senate seat in southwest Jefferson County, with the departure of former state senator and now interim Jefferson County Clerk David Yates.

Veteran and Louisville labor union president Gary Clemons is hoping to redefine what it looks like to be a Kentucky Democrat running for office.

"We've got too many lawyers [and] business owners in there deciding for the people [who are] getting left behind," he told WHAS11 in an interview on Wednesday. "We need to get more working-class people in those seats, and we're going to make it happen."
