The last four months at Huxley House in Cambridge have seen reports of a broken lift leaving a disabled woman “trapped” on the fifth floor for two weeks and a fire that left a tenant in a critical condition in hospital . Residents have also reported years of black mould, sewage leaks, and rodents.
Around 30 children are believed to live at Huxley House, Mill Park, which is run by housing association BPHA. The stress of the last four months has caused one young girl to have accidents in her sleep, and left another girl with asthma having to return to a block of flats that smells of smoke.
CambridgeshireLive has spoken to the mothers of some of these children, many of whom described feeling stuck at Huxley House. Those we have not named wished to remain anonymous.
