WOODLAND, Calif. —
Inside the Yolo County Courthouse, decisions are made daily about the lives of more than 200 children and teens in the court's care. Volunteers with Yolo County CASA play a crucial role in supporting these youth throughout their time in foster care.
“We are often the one consistent adult for the child as they go through the journey through the judicial system. Often, the one adult who is not paid to be there in the room,” said Doni DeBolt, executive director of Yolo County CASA.
Court appointed special advocates, or CASAs, are matched with foster youth for a minimum of 18 months. They’re sworn in by the court and, in addition to building a relationship with the child, provide critical information to the judges tasked with making decisions on their behalf.
