August’s busy tourism season helped push taxable sales to $144.2 million for the month — and pushed Aspen’s year-to-date total past the $1 billion mark, according to a city report released on Wednesday.
The August total marked a 25% jump over the same month in 2024. Through the first eight months of 2025, overall taxable sales were up 11% year-to-date, the city’s monthly tax report showed. Figures are not adjusted for inflation.
Shoppers in Aspen pay a combined 9.3% sales tax — including 2.4% to the city, 3.1% to Pitkin County, 2.9% to the state and 0.9% toward special district taxes.
