The state government has offered up a $200,000 grant to go towards providing an interim solution to a childcare crisis at Latrobe that has parents reeling.

The town's current main childcare facility, St Patrick's Long Day Care Centre, is set to close on December 24.

Lady Gowrie is building a new $4 million childcare centre in the town. But that will not be ready to welcome families until August-September next year.

The state's promise is contingent on Canberra chipping in to fund the creation of an interim childcare facility at another site, which would open its doors in January 2026.

Meanwhile, Lady Gowrie Tasmania will progress the building of its new centre in Cotton Street.
