A dramatic police pursuit through Mount Barker in the Adelaide Hills was ended after the fleeing utility vehicle smashed into a patrol car — before vanishing into the night.

The vehicle was later found abandoned but the suspects were nowhere to be seen and remain on the run, police said.

The chase began as South Australia Police ( SAPOL ) officers responded to reports of intoxicated patrons at a Mount Barker service station just after 2.30am on Thursday.

As officers arrived, they saw a man and woman get into a black Holden utility which then sped off on Adelaide Rd, SAPOL said.

Police gave chase with lights and sirens on but the Holden did not stop.

The pursuit continued through Mount Barker until the ute suddenly stopped on Flaxley Rd.
