Julia Roberts' daughter gave up her phone after watching Stand By Me.

The 57-year-old actress has recalled a time when her daughter Hazel, 20, was much younger and she was heavily influenced by the 1986 coming-of-age classic, which sees a group of friends go searching for a dead body.

Speaking to The New York Times newspaper, Julia said: "For some reason, I was thinking this morning about when my kids were young and we showed them Stand by Me, and our daughter said to me, 'I'm going to give you my phone.'

"And I said, 'OK. What do you want me to do with it?' "

Hazel told her to "just keep it", and reflected on how phones can get "in the way of things".
