WHEELING -- Led by senior Carson O’Dell’s score of 153, including an even-par 71 in Wednesday’s second round, Hurricane captured the WVSSAC Class AAAA golf state championship at Oglebay Resort’s Speidel Golf Club.
O’Dell’s performance rallied Hurricane from five strokes back of Washington to earn a state championship for Hurricane, which had finished runner-up in Class AAA in two straight seasons. This was the first year the tournament had expanded to four classifications.
“It’s amazing,” Hurricane coach Sam O’Dell said. “It was relief. There’s still more excitement. There’ll be a lot more celebration than relief.”
Washington finished with a score of 471 for the tournament, but the Patriots were eight strokes back of Hurricane, which also had top-five finishes from Parker O’Dell and Isa
