A 170-year-old national men’s clothing and outdoor outfitter will officially close its downtown Charleston shop with the final day of sales set for Christmas Eve.
Orvis confirmed its location at 525 King St. is one of 31 stores and five outlets the brand recently announced will shutter by early 2026. Simon Perkins , Orvis’ president, cited tariffs and a desire to streamline the company to its roots as a more focused fly-fishing and hunting brand.
“While Orvis remains committed to providing the very best gear and apparel for many years to come, we are also navigating economic headwinds that have led to the difficult decision to close our Charleston store,” Perkins said in a written statement. “Like many in retail, Orvis’ business model faced a sizeable shift with the introduction of an
