Actor and former cricketer Yograj Singh, the father of cricketer Yuvraj Singh, claimed that he was the only Punjabi film actor who was allowed to continue working during the turbulent 1980s. He said that he met Sikh militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who offered him protection. At the same time, prominent members of the arts community in Punjab were being targeted. Yograj claimed to have warned singer Amar Singh Chamkila to be careful, because his risque music had painted a target on his back.
