Former Manchester United defender Phil Jones is embarking on a journey towards management.

The 33-year-old, who hung up his boots last year , has set his sights on securing a top position in the future but acknowledges he must still prove himself worthy.

Jones is presently pursuing his UEFA Pro Licence and has been involved with United's academy players at Carrington during recent campaigns as he transitions from an injury-riddled playing career .

The former Blackburn talent recognises there's considerable groundwork ahead before landing his inaugural managerial role.

"I don't think there's a right or wrong way," Jones told BetMGM . "People say to me go and take an Under 18s, some say go and be an assistant somewhere.
