Jammu, Oct 16: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday announced the resumption of the bi-annual Darbar Move in Jammu and Kashmir after a hiatus of over four years. The practice, halted by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha in 2021, will soon be reinstated following cabinet approval.

Addressing a press conference, Omar said the cabinet had cleared the file in September, and the government will revive the century-old tradition of shifting the capital between Jammu (winter) and Srinagar (summer).

The Darbar Move, initiated in 1872 by Maharaja Gulab Singh, provided administrative access to both regions for over a century before it was discontinued. The announcement marks a significant step in restoring historical administrative practices in the Union Territory.
