Academics from far and near discussed benefits and pitfalls of artificial intelligence Wednesday at University of Toledo.

While welcoming AI, most also noted limitations and potential risks of its use.

Jason Opal, dean and director of the Ohio State University at Mansfield, for example, said AI is used in health care “to directly improve human condition.”

One of the first AI uses that Mr. Opal said he witnessed and “that was really interesting” was in emergency rooms in Montreal during the later parts of the pandemic “to basically figure out what are the times of the day based on patterns that we need the most nurses ... because there wasn’t enough money to hire nurses.”
