Someone who has been in Terry Smith’s shoes contacted him this week after he was named Penn State’s interim head football coach.

Former Nittany Lions defensive coordinator Tom Bradley served as interim coach for the final four games of the 2011 season after Joe Paterno was fired in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal.

That was the only other time that Penn State has changed head coaches in midseason since the program’s first season in 1887.

“Tom Bradley reached out to me,” Smith said Wednesday night after practice. “I’ve spoken to him. He’s a dear friend of mine, just giving winning advice. The most important thing that I’ve gotten all week is to take care of the guys in the locker room.
