WOONSOCKET – The trustee of Woonsocket’s historic Oak Hill Cemetery appears to control the burial ground through a network of inactive nonprofits and limited-liability companies, while also holding a multimillion-dollar property on Block Island, according to records.
With some regularity, city residents find their way into the cemetery and express frustration with its upkeep. As previously reported on, many tombstones are knocked loose and remain bent over. Bushes and small trees obscure gravestones. And while the grass in most areas is currently at a modest level, the general state of the cemetery remains a source of frustration for many. At different points throughout the year, vegetation routinely becomes overgrown.
