WEST GREENWICH – It’s no exaggeration to say that the Scituate High boys’ soccer team has been waiting years for this opportunity.

The Spartans hoped to move up to Division II before last season, but it didn’t work out. They subsequently dominated D-III and won the title. Now, finally, they’re in D-II and making the most of their chance to test themselves against better competition.

A 5-1 win over Exeter/West Greenwich last Friday pushed their D-II record to 10-1-1.

“We expected two years ago to move up to D-II, but that didn’t happen,” senior captain Cam Healey said. “We knew that when we got moved up this year, we had something to prove. All throughout the spring and summer, we were preparing and getting together for practices – just trying to get ready.”
