LINCOLN – The iconic Valentine Whitman House, located at 1147 Great Road, is on the market, giving buyers the opportunity to own a piece of history.

Built in 1696 for the only son of a prominent landowner and one of Rhode Island’s first colonists, the Valentine Whitman House is one of 14 “stone enders” left in the state. According to Preserve Rhode Island, a nonprofit specializing in the protection and restoration of historical properties , the house “is one of only two confirmed 17th century Rhode Island Stone Enders that escaped enlargement, restoration, or significant post-1850 alterations.”
