For me, a tartan skirt is a non-negotiable wardrobe staple. Over the years, I’ve amassed a large collection – some mini and buckled at the waist, others lengthy and wrap-around – all faithfully pulled out the moment the temperature drops.

But this season, the punk-ish print isn’t exclusive to pleated skirts . Recent street-style galleries have shown tartan’s appeal when emblazoned across other items of clothing, like flannel shirts , tailored trousers , oversized coats and accessories. Worn head-to-toe or as a single statement piece, tartan (and checks, and plaid, for that matter) is everywhere right now.
