The Justice Department will ask a grand jury Thursday afternoon to indict John Bolton, a former national security adviser to President Donald Trump who became one of his fiercest critics, according to two people familiar with the matter.

The U.S. attorney’s office in Greenbelt, Md., will seek the charges, which relate to his handling of classified documents, said the individuals who aren’t authorized to speak publicly.

Bolton is the latest person to face potential criminal charges as Trump seeks to prosecute his perceived enemies. However, this investigation began during the Biden administration, one of the sources said.
