A frightening video shows a grain bin collapse in northeastern Illinois, sending people, including first responders, running for their lives.

The catastrophe on Wednesday, Oct. 15, involved a silo in Watseka, a small city in Iroquois County about 90 miles south of Chicago.

Before the plunge, the grain bin contained more than 30,000 bushels of harvested soy beans, the Iroquois County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) reported.

According to the agency, local firefighters were coincidentally on scene for an EMS call when they noticed what appeared to be a structural issue with the bin.

Additional first responders arrived on scene shortly after and evacuated people from the collapse zone.

The grain bin collapsed about an hour later, as firefighters worked to find a potential fix.
