The latest edition of the Indiana Daily Student was expected to be on newsstands the morning of Oct. 16 in and around the Bloomington campus.
However, within a 24-hour period earlier in the week, Indiana University fired the student media director and ordered the 158-year-old publication to cease printing its newspapers . Content continues to be permitted online at idsnews.com . This was after earlier demands from school administrators to stop putting news content in print editions.
Student editors responded with an e-edition of the IDS with "CENSORED" in bold, red typeface, followed by a photo of an empty newsstand and a letter from co-editors-in-chief Mia Hilkowitz and Andrew Miller.
"This is not about print. This is about a breach of editorial independence," the letter reads
