On South Main Street in North Syracuse, The Cuttery Hair Salon looks like any cozy old house from the outside, but inside it’s been a staple in the community for 40 years, thanks to owner Joanne Stanzione.

When Stanzione opened The Cuttery in North Syracuse in 1985, she was just 27 years old. Four decades later, her salon has become the kind of place where generations of clients come not just for a haircut, but for conversation, comfort and connection.

“I worked right out of high school. I worked at a different salon right down on Route 11, a little bit south of here, and I worked there for nine years,” Stanzione said. “Then I just decided I wanted to open my own, and my husband said, ‘Yeah, go for it.’”
