WACO, Texas — Police have identified 24-year-old Tyrese Johnson as the victim of a fatal shooting early Wednesday that led to a manslaughter arrest in South Waco.
Officers responded to a call at 12:20 a.m. Oct. 15 in the 2400 block of South 21st Street, where they found a man, now identified as Tyrese Johnson, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police identified and arrested 24-year-old Joshua Chappell in connection with the shooting. He has been charged with manslaughter.
Authorities have notified Johnson's next of kin.
The department said it believes the incident was isolated and there is no danger to the public.
The investigation into the murder is ongoing. This marks Waco's ninth homicide investigation of 2025.
