Sana’a: An Israeli airstrike in August targeting Yemen’s top leadership killed the chief of staff of the Yemeni Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Abd al-Karim al-Ghamari, officials confirmed Thursday, further escalating tensions even as a fragile ceasefire holds in the Gaza Strip.

The strike also claimed the lives of Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmad al-Rahawi, several ministers, and al-Ghamari’s 13-year-old son, Hussain, according to a televised statement from the Yemeni Armed Forces. The military described al-Ghamari and his companions as “steadfast mujahideen with deep experience and knowledge, martyred while carrying out duties in support of Palestine.”
