PALATKA, Fla. (WCJB) - The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office announced it has recently terminated two deputies after they found them to be falsifying timecards that totaled thousands of dollars for hours not worked.

In early August, a supervisor noticed discrepancies in Lieutenant Matt Wells’ time cards that triggered an investigation.

Wells was placed on administrative leave on Aug. 22 and was found guilty of “double-dipping” as well as falsifying timecards by not taking annual leave while on vacation or participating in personal activities, according to the release.

Wells’ acts resulted in a loss of $6,522.49, which qualifies for grand theft charges.

Charges against Wells were filed with the state attorney’s office and he was fired on Oct. 6.
