Duquesne Light Company is set to energize its new Watson Substation — a $237.4 million, state-of-the-art facility designed to deliver an added layer of resiliency for Downtown energy — by the end of this year.
The substation, in the Bluff neighborhood, will serve as a third major power source for the Golden Triangle, officials said during a media event Thursday.
The six-year project is expected to be completed in December and is part of the city’s ongoing revitalization efforts ahead of the 2026 NFL draft. Once completed, Watson will join Duquesne Light’s Brunot Island and Forbes substations in supplying power to Downtown, aiming to improve resiliency during volatile weather and meet the needs of the region’s growing energy demands.
