Margaret Bose-Johnson wasn’t completely unaware of gluten-free cooking.

The 66-year-old, part-time German teacher from Parkland County, has in-laws who struggle with celiac disease, and family gatherings often reflected that. It wasn’t until over a decade ago that she had to consider this in her own immediate family when her daughter was diagnosed with the disease. Suddenly, everything had to be revised, including her baking.

“I learned a lot and had a lot of disasters over the years,” admits Bose-Johnson, who is showing off her hard-earned skills as one of the contestants on this year’s edition of The Great Canadian Baking Show. “Now I serve gluten-free things to people who are not gluten-free, and they can’t even tell.”
