CHARLOTTE, N.C. — North Carolina legislative leaders released a proposal Thursday for new congressional district lines, opening a public comment period ahead of an expected vote on what would be the state's second redistricting in three years.
The Senate and House redistricting committee chairs made the proposed map available on the General Assembly's website and invited public feedback through an online portal.
The move follows an announcement last week from North Carolina Republican legislators , who committed to drawing new congressional maps in response to President Donald Trump's call to GOP-controlled states.
Gov. Josh Stein condemned the move last week, saying voters should pick their representatives, "not the other way around."
