U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell fell down Oct. 16 in the basement of a Capitol office building in Washington, D.C., according to a video that was published on social media.

McConnell, who is 83 and retiring at the end of his term in 2026 , appeared to fall while taking a question by a supporter of the Sunrise Movement , an environmental advocacy group, who asked the senator about arrests by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. McConnell fell on his left side and was helped up by security officers — he then waved at a person filming before being helped down the hall.

A McConnell spokesperson told The Courier Journal the senator is "all good" after the fall and went to the Senate afterward to vote on an appropriations bill pending in the chamber amid the government shutdown.
