An appeals court has upheld Judge April Perry’s ruling prohibiting the Trump administration from deploying National Guard troops in Illinois.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7 th Circuit issued the ruling Thursday, and while National Guard troops already in the state do not have to return to their home states, the administration is not permitted to deploy them in Chicago or anywhere else in the state.
While President Donald Trump has argued he has the legal authority to deploy troops to protect immigration enforcement agents and federal property, Illinois officials filed suit seeking to ban such a deployment, arguing that it violates federal law and multiple Constitutional amendments.
