For the first time in eight seasons, Chicago Fire FC is playoff bound, and they’ll go into their final game of the season with postseason seeding at stake.
As things stand entering “Decision Day,” which will come on Saturday with every MLS team in action, the Fire have 52 points on the season and are in eighth place in the standings.
That positioning is key because the Fire are just one point behind Orlando and two points behind Nashville, and if they can jump either one of those teams, they’ll avoid a Wild Card Match, a one-game playoff to determine who makes it into the first full round of the MLS playoffs.
The Fire have qualified for the postseason for the first time since the 2017 season, having made the playoff field just once in the last 12 seasons prior to this season.
